Choosing a polypropylene compound is not only about price. Stable production depends on aligning three factors at once: process route, target mechanical properties, and batch-to-batch consistency.
1. Define the process clearly
Each process has a different processing window. Injection needs suitable flow and complete cavity fill; extrusion needs melt stability and uniform output; film needs a balance of strength and drawability. Price-only selection often leads to surface defects, warpage, or frequent machine adjustments.
- Injection: MFI control, shrinkage, and cooling behavior
- Extrusion: viscosity stability and surface uniformity
- Film and packaging: tensile performance and draw behavior
2. Match mechanical targets to the part
For impact-sensitive parts, impact-modified grades such as SPP-IM are a strong fit. When stiffness and dimensional stability matter more, talc, calcium carbonate, or glass-fiber reinforcement can raise modulus and heat performance. Datasheet values must still be validated under real molding conditions.
3. Protect batch repeatability
Even a strong formulation becomes unstable without controlled lots. MFI, filler content, color, and molding behavior should stay inside a tight window so the production line does not need constant recalibration.
