I believe this piece dates to the mid to late 19th century

and come in a very old wooden slide top box

established as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1819

Great Carved Chain Links Whimsy with Two Balls in Cages black vase A great one for danglingReally a nice whimsy, beautifully carved, with a great contrast between the sharp edges of the cages and the soft curves of the chain links. All done from one piece of wood; I'm not certain of the type of wood, but it's got a really warm tone and nice weight, and the piece definitely has some years on it. Really lovely. 13 inches long overall x 3 8" wide and deep. The cages measure 2 3 8" long each, and each link measures about 1 1 2" long. Excellent
